Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish feature that is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s theme is book to movie adaptations that you’re either excited for or haven’t watched yet.
I’m the kind of person who only tends to watch book to movie adaptations, and I’m a firm believer in reading the book before the watching the movie so that you can compare how faithful the movie is to the adaptation. Anyway, here’s my list:
Adaptations I still need to watch:
Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien
The only reason why I haven’t watched these is because I haven’t really gotten around to reading these yet. I really want to watch them soon, because I love the soundtracks and I keep listening to them, but I’m scared I’m just going to spoil myself that way.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Again, because I haven’t read it, I refuse to watch it. Still living by my read-before-watching-the-movie motto.
Love Rosie by Cecilia Ahem
I’ve actually read about half of this book, but I put it down because I starting reading something else. This was last year, so I do intend on getting down to this very soon.
PS I Love You by Cecilia Ahem
Another movie that I really want to watch, but need to get to the book first! I just realised that most of these adaptations I haven’t watched is because I haven’t read the book yet…
Maze Runner by James Dashner
Again, haven’t read it. I actually own the entire trilogy of books though, and I have heard that some people prefer the movie over the books, so I’m interested to read and watch this and see how it goes.
Book to movie adaptations I’m excited for:
Mockingjay Pt 2 by Suzanne Collins
SO CLOSE YET SO FAR! I’ve been hearing only positive things about this last part of the Hunger Games. I love how faithful all the Hunger Games movies have been to the books, hopefully this last instalment will be an epic conclusion to the series.
Shadowhunters by Cassandra Clare
Technically, this is a book to TV show adaptation, but I’m still really stoked about this, since the movie wasn’t that successful. However, from what I’ve seen so far from the trailers, it doesn’t really live up to my expectations, so I guess we’ll wait and see until next January.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
There’s one exception to my read-before-watching rule and that’s Outlander. I’ve almost finished the first season, and I’m really loving it so far. My only concern is that the next season doesn’t premiere until May next year.
Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
If you’ve read my review, you’ll know that I absolutely adored this book. I’m so excited to see this on the big screen because it’ll be interesting to how they portray the different time periods, and if they’ve recreated some of the sets based on the pictures.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
Throne of Glass has been optioned for a TV series recently, and I’m so excited about this! My only hope for this series is that they do it justice.
So there’s my top ten book to screen adaptations that I either need to watch or are coming out very soon? What are some of yours?
I liked The Book Thief but not nearly as much as the book. I’ll be curious as to what you think.

I’ve ditched my “read before you watch it” rule. So many book to movie/tv adaptations these days that I can’t possible read them all before I watch them. Watched Love Rosie but didn’t read the book, cute movie! I want to read The Book Thief before watching the movie.

It’s so hard to stay on top of everything! I feel like the Book Thief is definitely one of those in which you should read the book before the movie.

Yes to The Book Thief! That’s on my list too! :D I would love to watch Love, Rosie, too but I haven’t read the book yet, thus it was not on my list.
You have great choices here! :D
Here are the novel-based movies I am excited to watch: http://wp.me/p4ZhSl-kk. :)

I would put The Maze Runner at the bottom of your list of things to read/watch. The books where a dud, but yes the 1st movie was slightly better than the book. I have yet to see the second but I don’t have much hope.
AND ARE YOU SERIOUS ABOUT THRONE OF GLASS?! I cannot even think about that. Its too much for me to handle.

I love The Book Thief! I can’t wait for the Miss Peregrine’s film either, it should be amazing, especially since Tim Burton is making it. I’m not sure about the Throne of Glass series, because it’s a favourite of mine and if anything is different I know I’ll be really annoyed…but we’ll see.

I’m really scared about throne of glass because they can either do it really well or just completely ruin it.

Exactly! I’m trying to be excited about it but I know I’ll hate it if anything is wrong, no matter how small

Especially the plot D: I feel like if they change it too much I’m going to end up disliking it

Same for me with The Book Thief. But I’ll hopefully be reading the book soon because I just ordered the book! Can’t wait to read it and also watch the movie afterwards. My TTT.

I actually loved the LOTR films even more than the books – I felt that they really cut the books down to the essential heart of the story. Which is the exact opposite of what they did with The Hobbit, unfortunately…. >.<
